Remediation of oil contamination

Since 1997 , OPV has been involved in the long-term investigation and remediation of the rock environment and groundwater at CEPROsites used for the storage and distribution of petroleum products. These sites have historically been burdened by the handling of large volumes of fuel and pose an increased risk to drinking water sources.

The project covers dozens of sites across the Czech Republic and is one of the most extensive and longest-running remediation projects in the field of oil pollution.

Solution

The remediation was based on a combination of exploration, remediation, and monitoring work:

  • detailed exploration of the extent of contamination in both saturated and unsaturated zones,
  • design and implementation of remediation technologies in-situ,
  • long-term monitoring of groundwater quality,
  • ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of remediation measures.

Result

A gradual and systematic approach led to a significant reduction in contamination and the protection of strategically important drinking water sources. The project serves as a long-term reference example of effective remediation of oil pollution in industrial areas.
